Film Funding Conundrum…

Film funding is one of those struggles that every filmmaker knows about. I knew full well when I started Wax Print that it would be difficult to find funding. So, I decided to start filming anyway.

I made up my mind that if no one funded me, I would find ways to fund myself and that’s what I did for a year and a half. I used funds from my business, my work, my savings (not very much to be honest), the bank?! to get the film off the ground – I was able to self-fund myself from Paris to Berlin, Holland to Ghana and across the USA.

In October I launched the crowdfunded and after a month of blood, sweat and tears you guys really came through and I was able to fund the Nigeria leg of the Wax Print saga.

After the crowdfund campaign I met up with Maggie, funding application aficionado, who encouraged me to apply for some Arts Council England (ACE) funding to help exhibit the film and get it to as wide an audience as possible. She helped my with the application and we sent it in…

2 months later and….

We got it!

The ACE fund came at just the right time and I’m now able to push ahead at a faster rate than previously.

Thank you Arts Council England 🙂
